November 1st is the first day of California’ large fuel tax increase. Starting Wednesday, there will be a 12¢ jump in the gasoline excise tax and a 20¢ increase in diesel fuel excise tax. The diesel fuel sales tax rate will also go from 1.75% to 5.75%.
The new law will see drivers in California paying 47.3¢ per gallon for gasoline and 36¢ per gallon on diesel. The 36¢ on diesel does not include the diesel sales tax amount.
So far in 2017, seven states have increase fuel taxes (California, Indiana, Montana, South Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee and West Virginia).
