CVSA to Take Phased-In Approach to ELD Mandate

By now many of you will have read the headlines about the ELD mandate being delay. Please note it has not been delayed. The only change is penalties applied by law enforcement.

The major change is failure to have an ELD will not cause a carrier to be placed out of service until after March 31, 2018.

Beginning December 18, 2017, enforcement officials will begin documenting violations. At the jurisdictions discretion, inspectors will issue citations to drivers without a compliant ELD. Beginning April 1, 2018, the vehicle will be placed out of service.

What this means is a driver will not be placed out of service until April 2018, but you may still be fined for the violation.

I am sure more information will be forth coming, but remember, you still need an ELD before December 18, 2017.
